Rashid Johson

Johnson (b. 1977, Chicago) works at the intersection of abstraction and autobiography, where material is never neutral. His Anxious Men series began in 2015 and has since evolved into these larger, more engulfing Audiences. There’s something communal about them—a collective unease, a silent crowd witnessing, waiting, holding their breath.

Rashid Johnson’s work moves through painting, sculpture, photography, and installation, layering history with the personal and the political. A leading voice in contemporary art, his use of materials—shea butter, black soap, ceramic, mirror—creates an ongoing conversation about race, identity, and cultural memory. His upcoming solo exhibition at the Guggenheim, Rashid Johnson: Seascape, opens in 2024, marking a new chapter in his evolving exploration of form and meaning.

Andy Warhol

Andy Warhol (1928–1987) was a leading figure in the Pop Art movement, redefining contemporary art with his bold, mass-produced imagery of celebrities, consumer goods, and American culture. Trained as a commercial illustrator, he embraced silkscreen printing to create iconic works like Marilyn Diptych, Campbell’s Soup Cans, and Brillo Boxes. His studio, The Factory, became a hub for artists, musicians, and cultural icons. Warhol’s work has been exhibited worldwide, with major retrospectives at MoMA, Tate Modern, and the Whitney Museum. His legacy continues to shape art, media, and the intersection of celebrity and commerce.
